KLAR is a nicotine pouch brand created by Emplicure, a Swedish bioceramic laboratory in Uppsala founded by Professor Håkan Engqvist. Rather than coming from a tobacco company, KLAR was developed from materials science, adapting bioceramics — calcium-based materials normally used in dental implants and bone-graft scaffolds — into a nicotine pouch carrier. The brand launched in the UK and EU from 2024 onward under Emplicure Consumer AB.

KLAR's core idea is that its bioceramic granules, branded SERATEK™, hydrate faster than standard plant-cellulose fillers, which the brand says leads to quicker, stronger nicotine release and a smoother mouthfeel. KLAR positions itself as a reduced-risk alternative built on pharmaceutical-style science rather than tobacco industry heritage, citing consumer demand for reduced-risk nicotine products as its rationale for entering the category.

KLAR currently sells one product line — Mini nicotine pouches — across a small, focused range of flavors and three nicotine strengths, distributed through retailers in Sweden, the UK, and other parts of the EU.

Nicotine strength ranges from 3.2 mg (Regular) to 9.4 mg (Extra Strong), with a 6.4 mg (Strong) option in between; some retailers list these rounded as 3 mg, 6 mg, and 9 mg.

KLAR pouches don't use the plant-fiber base found in most nicotine pouches. Instead, their filling is built around SERATEK™, a patented biocompatible calcium compound (a bioceramic granulate), combined with:

• Bioceramic (calcium-compound) granules
• Water
• Bulking agents
• Flavorings (where applicable)
• Nicotine

The bioceramic granules hydrate quickly once in the mouth, which KLAR says supports faster nicotine absorption and a smoother, less abrasive fit than standard fiber-based pouches. As with other white-style pouches, KLAR's pouches are designed to minimize drip and are not expected to stain teeth.

• Take a pouch from the can and place it under your upper lip.
• A slight tingling sensation, lasting up to around 5 minutes, indicates that nicotine and flavor are being released.
• Leave the pouch in place for up to 40 minutes, depending on preference.
• Dispose of the used pouch in the catch lid compartment on the underside of the can lid.
